Care with the details spelled out

Below is what each appointment actually includes — not a list of words, but the things we physically do, how long they take, and when your pet needs them. If something isn't here, ask; we'd rather tell you we don't do it than fudge it.

Wellness exams

An unhurried nose-to-tail check-up — 40 minutes, so nothing gets rushed past.

When you need it: Once a year for adults, twice a year from age seven onward.

Most problems we catch early are found here, not in an emergency. We book wellness visits at 40 minutes because a real exam takes time: hands on every joint, a look in both ears, a listen to the heart across a full minute, and a proper conversation about what you've noticed at home. You leave knowing what we found, what we're watching, and what — if anything — needs doing next.

What's included

  • Nose-to-tail physical exam
  • Weight, body-condition and muscle scoring
  • Heart, lung and abdominal check
  • Eyes, ears, skin and coat
  • Dental grading with photos you can see
  • A written summary emailed the same day

Vaccinations & prevention

Only the vaccines your pet's actual life calls for — no blanket schedules.

When you need it: Puppies and kittens from 8 weeks; adults on an annual or 3-year cycle.

A barn cat in Turner and an apartment cat in downtown Salem do not need the same vaccine list, and we won't pretend otherwise. We build a schedule around where your pet goes, who they meet, and what's actually circulating in Marion County this season. Everything is explained before it's given, including what it costs and how long it lasts.

What's included

  • Core vaccines for dogs and cats
  • Lifestyle vaccines — leptospirosis, bordetella, and more
  • Flea, tick and heartworm prevention plans
  • Intestinal parasite screening
  • Titer testing when you'd rather not re-vaccinate
  • Reminders by text or email, your choice

Dental care

Full-mouth X-rays, monitored anesthesia, and an estimate before we start.

When you need it: When you see tartar, red gums, or catch a smell you'd rather not.

Dental disease is the most under-treated problem we see, mostly because the painful parts hide below the gumline. Every cleaning here includes full-mouth radiographs, because scaling teeth without X-rays is guesswork. You get a written estimate before anything begins, and if we find something unexpected under anesthesia we call you from the treatment room before we act on it.

What's included

  • Full-mouth digital dental X-rays
  • Ultrasonic scaling and polishing
  • Extractions with local nerve blocks
  • Dedicated nurse monitoring anesthesia throughout
  • IV fluids and warming for every patient
  • Before-and-after photos and a home-care plan

Surgery

Routine and soft-tissue procedures, with a nurse on your pet the whole time.

When you need it: Scheduled Tuesday through Thursday; urgent cases fit in same-week.

Every surgical patient gets bloodwork first, an IV catheter, a warming bed, and one nurse whose only job is watching them — not answering the phone. We use multi-modal pain control, which means pain relief starts before the first incision rather than after your pet wakes up. You get a text with a photo when they're recovering, because the waiting is the hardest part.

What's included

  • Spays and neuters
  • Mass and lump removals with biopsy
  • Bladder stone and foreign-body surgery
  • Pre-anesthetic bloodwork on every patient
  • Multi-modal pain control before, during and after
  • A recovery call from your pet's nurse the next morning

Senior pet care

Twice-yearly visits built around comfort, mobility and quality of life.

When you need it: From age seven for dogs and cats; earlier for giant breeds.

Older pets change quietly. A senior visit looks at the things owners often read as "just getting old" — stiffness, night waking, drinking more, backing off the food bowl — and asks whether any of it is treatable. Usually some of it is. We work in small, affordable steps rather than one overwhelming plan, and we're honest about what's worth doing.

What's included

  • Twice-yearly exams with senior bloodwork
  • Blood pressure and thyroid screening
  • Arthritis and mobility assessment
  • Pain-management and joint-support plans
  • Cognitive and behaviour-change support
  • Gentle, unhurried quality-of-life conversations

Same-day sick visits

Weekday slots we hold open, on purpose, for pets who feel unwell.

When you need it: Call before 10:00am, Monday through Saturday.

We keep appointments unbooked every weekday morning so that a pet who stopped eating overnight can be seen today rather than Thursday. Call before 10:00am and we'll almost always find you a slot. If what your pet needs is a 24-hour emergency hospital instead, we'll tell you straight away and call ahead so they're expecting you.

What's included

  • Held-open weekday appointments
  • In-house bloodwork with results in 20 minutes
  • Digital X-ray and ultrasound on site
  • Wound care, ear and skin problems, upset stomachs
  • Honest triage — including when to go to the ER instead
  • A same-day plan you can actually afford

The things that stop a small problem becoming a referral

Kept in-house on purpose — so an answer takes twenty minutes and one visit, not a week and three.

In-house laboratory

Bloodwork, urinalysis and cytology run here — most results in about 20 minutes, so you're not waiting days for an answer.

Microchipping

Placed during any visit, registered before you leave, and checked for free at every appointment after.

Nutrition & weight coaching

Free re-weigh appointments with our nurses, plus a plan that fits the food you can actually buy in Salem.

Written estimates, always

You see the number before we begin. If the plan changes mid-procedure, we call you first — every time, no exceptions.

About the bill

You'll know the number before we begin

Nobody should find out what a procedure costs afterwards. Here's exactly how we handle it.

  • A written estimate, always

Itemised and emailed before any procedure is booked — not a verbal range.

  • A call if the plan changes

If we find something unexpected under anesthesia, we phone you from the treatment room first.

  • High and low estimates

Two numbers, so you're planning for the worst case rather than the best one.

  • Payment plans on request

Third-party care financing and split payments for larger procedures. Just ask Jonah.

Not sure whether something needs an appointment? Call (503) 555-0142 — our nurses give free phone triage, and they'll tell you if it can wait.

Book the appointment you've been putting off.

Wellness exams, a dental estimate, or just a nervous first meeting with no exam at all — we do those too.

Call before 10:00am on a weekday and we hold same-day slots for sick pets.
